Fall 2015 Collection

“For Fall 2015, I was inspired by the dazzle of New York City after dark, and the enduring allure of its glamorous nightlife.” - Gilles Mendel

Spring 2015 Collection

“For J. Mendel’s Spring 15 collection, I have collaborated with the artist, Enoc Perez. Taking some of his paintings of large buildings as an inspirational starting point, we worked together to translate those images into luxurious, highly textural fabrications, while keeping things sleek and architectural in terms of silhouette.”- Gilles Mendel

Snoopy & Belle

"J. Mendel doesn’t design men’s clothing, so I decided to turn Snoopy into a mini Gilles! Like me, he’s wearing a tailored Thom Browne suit, and – of course – my signature black rimmed glasses. I decided to dress Belle in a classic J. Mendel silk mousseline pleated gown. It’s ultra-feminine, light, and diaphanous, with a sense of movement and effortless glamour. Iconic J. Mendel.”- Gilles Mendel

Fashion Heritage
On Madison Avenue

In celebration of J. Mendel’s long-standing connection with Madison Avenue, a special selection of the house’s iconic fur creations were revived from the archives. Displayed in the windows of the Madison Avenue boutique, each piece beautifully demonstrated a hallmark technique either designed or perfected by the J. Mendel atelier, and informed by almost 150 years of unparalleled craftsmanship.

Fall 2014 Collection

"Over the past few seasons, I had moved towards leaner silhouettes for evening, but thinking about the vivid colors of the Ballets Russes made me want to capture a sense of romance and movement." - Gilles Mendel

Gilles' Sketches

Fall 2014 Collection

"Softly draped bodices and asymmetrical tiered skirts of hand-pleated ruffles convey a sense of motion and lightness. When they move, the girls look like jewel-colored ballerinas" - Gilles Mendel

Fall 2014 Collection

"This season, I was interested in color-play and controlled asymmetry. Plaid is a motif that echoes throughout the collection, informing the furs as well as the ready-to-wear." -Gilles Mendel
