NYC BALLET COSTUMES

Gilles Mendel has designed the costumes for a new ballet choreographed by NYCB’s Ballet Master in Chief, Peter Martins, which premiered on May 10th as part of New York City Ballet’s 2012 French-themed Spring Gala, À La Française. This is the second time Gilles Mendel has collaborated with NYCB; he previously designed the costumes for Melissa Barak’s original ballet, Call Me Ben, in 2010. “There is a natural affinity between J. Mendel and the world of ballet,” said Gilles Mendel. “The femininity, fluidity and transparency of our designs, and our expertise in manipulating luxury fabrics in unexpected ways, perfectly accommodate both the aesthetic and kinetic demands of the art form.”
